Nigerian Food Delivered...

We all have days when we want to do absolutely nothing and rely on others to make our lunch, dinner etc. for us. There are a lot of benefits that can be derived from this, but my personal view is that, because we are giving the responsibility of making our food to someone else should by no means, mean that quality and safety should be compromised.

The ways we purchase our meals have evolved and is evolving. For those of us that live in urban cities/towns, there is an explosion of options, and its beautiful to see that West African food is a prominent option on the Online Food Delivery menu...

See below some benefits or advantages for ordering food online or using food delivery services.

  • Convenience - I love the convenience of being able to order food and have it delivered anywhere and anytime I want. This frees up a lot of "Me Time"...!
  • Variety - online food ordering platforms have a wide variety of options. What's your flavour? These varieties make it possible to pick and choose as you wish...
  • Costs - if you measure costs in terms of "time" and not money, then you will be saving a lot of costs by ordering food online. Think about what you can do with the time saved from having to shop for ingredients and cooking food from scratch!

What to bear in mind:

I live in the UK, so this post is based on my experience here. But I would expect similar standards in other parts of the world...

  1. The first thing to check out about your online food vendor is the "Food Hygiene Rating". This a government rating scheme where food establishments are given star rating for food hygiene and safety. 5 stars is the most ideal to confirm that hygiene and safety standards are of very high standards. Conversely, a 0 star rating indicates very poor standards. To check the food hygiene rating of any food establishment here in England, visit the government website - https://ratings.food.gov.uk/
  2. If its your first time ordering from a food vendor online, be prepared to get some "surprises" both pleasant and unpleasant really. I strongly recommend that you check reviews or customer testimonials. Its even better if you can get a friend or member of your family to give you a review. If this is not available, am afraid you will have to "find out for yourself", so ensure your first order is for trial only. Do not order too many things.

Where to order:

My two highly recommended online food vendors are:

1. BelleFull - (freshly cooked Nigerian food delivered to any part of the UK). This establishment comes highly recommended. Most of the food is frozen. They also cater for events and house parties. Online registration required for first time users

2. Avila UK - Also well recommended. Avila also delivers to any address in the UK. They cater for parties and events too. Online registration required for first time users

3. Just Eat - very popular online food ordering service. All food business that operate and deliver to addresses in your area are listed. Best for ordering freshly prepared meals for immediate consumption.
