Its Agbalumo (African Star Apple) season again, in Nigeria, West Africa that is... this thought brings a lot of excitement to a lot of people, especially those who love the fruit, and there are a lot who love the fruit....This fruit could well be the National fruit of Nigeria actually.... something to consider by the Nigerian government.
I love the fact fruits emerge according to their season here in Nigeria, and not the sort of things that happen in the western countries where you can find any type of fruit any time of the year...! I do sincerely believe there is a reason why this happens in Nature.
Anyway, the African star apple, locally called udara or agbalumo in the local dialects, is really much loved here in Nigeria, but it is seldom used in recipes....instead, the fruit is eaten in its natural state and enjoyed for its wonderful sweet and tart taste. Read more about agbalumo here....
Well over the years, I have been really bold and broken a few boundaries actually, with the way this fruit is eaten and enjoyed. I have found personally that it is great in dessert recipes and below are a few successful recipes I have been able to come up with...
