Spiralized Dodo Crisps

Plantain or dodo crisps are so popular, and enjoyed by a lot of Nigerians. These crisps are made  by frying thin slices of plantain, often in palm oil, but also in vegetable oil, until they become crispy, and are mostly served as a snack.

Plantain crisps can actually be healthy if done properly, properly, I mean by cooking in a healthy oil like coconut oil or organic red palm oil. Also if care is taken, to limit the length of time the plantain slices remain in the oil.

When I encountered my Oxo hand held spiralizer, one of the uses I was going to put it to, is to make plantain crisps..... and because I can make the in such thing spirals, I believe they may actually be healthier than the regular cut crisps.......so here they are, try some out. (Check out how to spiralize plantains here).

Make a large batch and serve to your guests at home or at your party. Also package some in clear food bags for yours or your children's lunch box...! You can also use these crisps to garnish your food and enhance its visual appeal.

Plantain / Dodo Crisp for the Lunch box

What you need
  • Plantains. Choose the mature but not so ripe ones
  • Seasoned salt (optional)
  • Coconut oil for frying (you can use red palm oil as a substitute)

What to do
  1. Spiralize your plantain and deep fry. Because the spirals are quite thin, the crisps cook quickly.
  2. Remove from the oil and set on some kitchen towel to drain excess oil.
  3. Sprinkle some seasoned salt. and serve.
  4. Allow to cool before you pack for your lunch box.

We're a very flexible platform and I'm very happy to chat through all kinds of possibilities.

I can't find a contact page with an email - but I sent you a facebook message with my details!

    Thanks,
